Product Description
For the Phantom,
there is only one girl.
For Sam,
there is only one horse.

When an ambitious rodeo contractor comes to town, Sam's worried. The woman wants to buy tamed mustangs from local ranchers, including Sam's dad, and doesn't seem to like taking no for an answer.

Then Sam spots the Phantom's herd -- without him. She's sure he's been captured by the rodeo, but how will she find him? And even if she does, how can she set him free?

5 out of 5 stars The Renegade   September 4, 2008
A rodeo contracter named Karla Star is using
the Phantom Stallion as a rodeo bucking horse.
Sam is going all around trying to find him, and
when she does he's all drugged up.
I think this is the first one with
Dr. Scott in it. He helps to save the Phantom.
In the book after this the Phantom is more
cautious around Sam. But who could blame him?

Good story, just not the best for me. I could really relate to how the characters feel. Good for readers who just began the series. A good holiday present, in my case.

5 out of 5 stars I love the Phantom Stallion books!!!!!!!!!!!!   July 5, 2006
This is one of my favorite books! A woman named Karla Starr captures the Phantom to use in a rodeo. Can Samantha return the stallion to the wild before his spirit is broken?

crazy for horses

I have read the first thirteen of the Phantom Stallion series, and The Renegade is one of my favorites. Like all the Phantom Stallion books, a lot of different story lines are presented throughout the book. You get to know not only the human characters, but also the horses, each of which have their own personality as well. I highly recommend the Phantom Stallion series for any horse lover!

5 out of 5 stars Typical troubles of young girls, and Wild Horses!   November 9, 2004

This is a fun story about a young girl who has befriended a wild stallion. This was the fourth book in a series, but the only one I've read. It is well written. I recognized that there was background information in the other stories, but the story was self contained enough to stand on its own.

The young girl, Sam, struggles with fairly normal teenage stuff. She struggles with algebra and other school subjects. Sam has to deal with a snotty rich girl who is very self-centered and hardly thinks of anyone else. Sam's family is working hard to keep their ranch.

Connecting all these pieces is Sam's love for a mustang, "The Phantom Stallion." There is a woman in town who supplies animals to rodeos. Sam is worried that the woman may illegally try to capture the wild stallion, and Sam tries to protect the mustang.

This is a good story for young children. One of my daughters found the series and has read every book she could get her hands on, and several of the books she had read more than once. If you have a child who loves horses, this is a good book to get.
