Director Martin Ritt (Norma Rae) helmed this offbeat romance that earned costar James Garner an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of a widowed druggist who befriends a confused divorcee (Sally Field) and her son, who move to a small rural town to start over. The laid-back performance of Garner as a man finding love "for the last time in his life" contrasts wonderfully with Field's portrayal of a woman scared and unsure of what the future may hold for her, and the two of them together exhibit great comic timing. I have watched this movie many times and even recorded it. However, when I got online and noticed I could buy it, I did so. It is now added to my little collection.
The movie is great. It's too bad we don't have these fun, carefree, romantic movies around.

The dvd arrived in great condition. The movie is one of my old-time favorites and I enjoyed as much as I did watching it years ago.

Emma is a divorced woman with a teen aged boy who moves into a small town and tries to make a go of a horse ranch. Murphey is the town druggist who steers business her way. Things are going along predictably until her ex husband shows up, needing a place to stay. The three of them form an intricate circle, Emma's son liking Murphey, but desperately wanting his father back. James Garner and Sally Field make an appealing couple involved in a May-December romance. If you like a movie with a touch of romance, humor, and good performances by the lead actors, this is a movie you should add to you DVD collection.
